This completely resonates with me! I’m an SLP in Australia and for over 15 years, wearing a uniform in hospitals felt so depressing to me (but of course, necessary) as someone who loves fashion. Now I’m in academia and I finally feel like I have permission to express myself but have a little imposter syndrome! Thanks so much for this read 😊

Hi Amanda! Thank you for being here! It is SO liberating to be able to wear what you want. The best part of any style journey is rediscovering it. I am so excited for you!

You should read Leandra Cohen’s interview with her extremely fashionable OBGYN! You sound like peas in a pod.

hi Sylvie! Ah yes I did read it. Now that you mention it, I will have to go back and read it again. Thank you! I love Leandra’s interviews with real women.

This is really, really brilliant, and I’ve often wondered the same thing as someone who loves fashion and works in healthcare. Thanks so much for putting these words out there! I’m sure so many others relate!

I am so glad that this resonated with you. Sometimes I feel like an imposter when I am complimented on my outfit or style, and then get asked "what do you do?" i think in a way, it comes from my fear of possibly disappointing the asker. And that fear will send me into a spiral; "I don't belong here," "who do I think I am, wanting to wear the Row or Dries Van Noten when I am 'only just' a healthcare provider?" It's a a struggle at times. We really are our worst enemies.

Hi Claire, thank you for sharing. It's great connecting with like minded people. I agree 100% with your comment. What I realized (through Substack and IG) is that there are so many diverse, three dimensional professionals out here, who are all feeling the exact same thing. I learned that it is important to stay authentic, keep sharing what you love, not to be discouraged by those negative inner voices and naysayers. It is so empowering to have your own newsletter! We have so much to say and share.
